Our newest outreach program started in February 2015. We asked the residents and staff at Pilgrim Park what we could do in the way of a volunteer program that would make a real difference in their lives. The answer was clear: “Help the elementary school kids with their homework.” The Pilgrim Park parents are fiercely dedicated to seeing their children educated, but many do not speak English as their first language, and are frustrated trying to help with typical reading and spelling assignments.
What a perfect fit! We have members with teaching backgrounds and meeting rooms that aren’t being used weekday afternoons, so the Pilgrim Hill Homework Club was born. We provide after-school snacks and one-on-one homework help two afternoons every week. The initial response has been great. If you’d like to help, contact Pastor Tracy.
