(Scripture: John 20:1-18 & Colossians 3:1-4) On a beautiful Easter morning, with the church overflowing, Pastor Sally preached a serious sermon on her belief that something profound and larger than human understanding changed the world on the first Easter. She illustrated this with a remarkable true story about a sermon she really didn’t want to preach, and she cited the following poem as the essence of what “Christ Lives” means to us all.
I am not I.I am this onewalking beside me whom I do not see, whom at times I manage to visit, and whom at other times I forget;who remains calm and silent while I talk, and forgives, gently, when I hate, who walks where I am not,who will remain standing when I die.Juan Ramón Jiménez,(Translation © 1973 by Robert Bly)
