On this first Sunday of Advent, Pastor Tracy took a hard look at the state of race relations in our country, as reflected in this week’s headlines from Ferguson, MO. She explored the deep parallels between the condition of Jews in Israel under the Roman Empire and the challenges faced daily by Americans of color. She noted that the Jews’ hopes for a savior revolved around real-world needs for physical and political relief, not some sort of symbolic or “religious” salvation, and she challenged us to pray about the kind of “Advent Light” we all need today. This was the first of two sermons on this topic. Click here to listen to the second one.
Scripture: Matthew 1: 18-25 and Luke 1:67-80.
